WORKSHOP FOR HORSE BREEDERS OF THE STUDS SUPERVISED BY NSCFA AND AUTUMN BREEDING INSPECTION

On 14th and 15th September, a workshop for horse breeders of studs supervised by National Support Centre for Agriculture combined with the autumn breeding inspection of purebred Arabian horses took place at Michałów State Stud.

On Wednesday at 10 a.m., Monika Słowik, the acting president of SK Michałów, officially opened the breeding inspection, while Magdalena Helak-Kulczyńska, senior horse breeding specialist and Marta Jaros, horse breeding specialist, led the presentation of the horses and presented the results of Michałów Stud’s breeding programme. The presentation was overseen by Andrzej Wójtowicz, NSCfA director plenipotentiary for horse breeding, Andrzej Stasiowski, senior NSCfA horse breeding specialist and the hippologist, professor Krystyna Chmiel.

During the presentation of the Michałów herd, the breeders and enthusiasts of Arabian horses had the opportunity to see 370 representatives of all breeding groups belonging to the stud. Without a doubt, the most excitement was observed during the presentation of this year’s foals; 59 colts and 35 fillies by PARIS, AJ AZZAM, MORION, WARES, EQUATOR, HAASH OSB, PIAFF, DOMINIC M, EL OMARI, FORMAN, GANGES and AIM SOUTH.

After the official part of the inspection came to an end, the participants of the workshop had the chance to visit all the Michałów stables as well as the museum full of trophies where Magdalena Helak-Kulczyńska talked about the everyday life of the stud.

The theoretical part on Thursday started at 8 a.m. in the show arena with a very interesting lecture by many years’ trainer and handler of Michałów Stud Mariusz Liśkiewicz, who talked about the specificity of Arabian horse show training. The next speaker was Dominika Kraśko, the manager of large corporations as well as the founder of ‘Centurion Equestrian Centre’, who raised the subject of breeding-and-sales marketing as well as the organization and implementation of shows, sales and sport events. Senior breeder of Krasne State Stud Roman Krzyżanowski gave a lecture on the daily work routine at the stud, while Anna Pięta, the founder and manager of the Yarrowia Equinox brand at Skotan Inc. spoke about the feeding of mares and foals. The last speaker of the workshop was Jacek Łojek, PhD, assistant professor in the Department of Animal Breeding at Warsaw University of Life Sciences, hippologist and many years’ racing judge, who talked about the influence of various show training methods on the levels of stress in Arabian horses.

The workshop held at Michałów State Stud was just one of the series of events organized by National Support Centre for Agriculture in cooperation with the studs supervised by NSCfA.
